For the month of August 2019, I am publishing 12 posts this month, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of every week. Today’s topic is “Why start bioenergetics?”
As of August 2nd, I started to add Bioenergetics into my daily routine. Follow along with me as I try to explain exactly what what it is and why it might benefit you as well.
What is Bioenergetics?
Bioenergetics is an interesting concept brought to my attention in July 2019. I subscribe to a monthly physical newsletter that focuses on mindset and entrepreneurship called the Tej Dosa Letters. (You can sign up here if you want)!
Anywho, according to this description I got from an Amazon book, “bioenergetics is the revolutionary new therapy that uses the language of the body to heal the problems of the mind.”
To simplify this, we all go through trauma and troubles in our life and while our mind may get over them (eventually), the body holds onto these experiences. This can manifest itself in the way we carry ourselves and/or the way we react to similar situations.
Speaking from personal experience, I sometimes think about past regrets. You know the ones where you think about an action you should‘ve taken when dealing with something. I realized that a big problem is that my body still remembers that physical feeling from those events.
So I recoil and/or react accordingly based on those events.
My mind may be over the issue but my body clearly hasn’t. Maybe that’s the issue. I ignored the connection between my mind and body for too long.

Getting started with Bioenergetics
So I followed the instructions laid out by Tej, and started watching the same guy on YouTube he recommended: Devaraj Sandberg.
Devaraj has a lot of videos and real-time training on bioenergetics and other things. Like Tej, I also find it easier to put on a video and follow along.
Everyday in August, I am going to spend time following this basic video by Devaraj Sandberg called Bow & Arch. It takes 20 minutes but I just follow along as needed.
(Sidenote: it’s weird to think that YouTube has become so massive that it is pretty much the VCR for the modern age. 20 years ago, bioenergetics would be a tal
What did Bioenergetics teach me?
At this stage, I have only done the most basics of exercise, the Bow and Arch. I will say this though: it’s harder and easier than it seems.
The Bow (hands up position) is my most tense position (so far). The position requires you to hold you hands above your head, push your hips forward and hold this position for 3 minutes at a time. During this time, you are encouraged to breathe and exhale deeply and consistently.
The release of tension is waves is astounding and catches me off almost every time. It’s a strange thing that happens. As I exhale in this position, I feel the ripples of tension rolling down the front of my body.
Breathe in, breath out.
Rolling waves of released tension which brings joy and apprehension.
Devaraj says this is the years of built of tension leaving my body. Maybe this is the physical manifestation of me not opening up in Life. I am not sure what it is, but it no longer deserves to be in my body.
Only time will tell.
